Broward College District Board of Trustees Approve Articulation Agreement with Florida A&M University

Fort Lauderdale, FL (October 17, 2017) – Broward College has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Florida A&M University (FAMU) to launch a transfer articulation agreement for students completing associate's degrees. The Broward College District Board of Trustees ratified the agreement on Tuesday, September 26 during its monthly public meeting.

Program-specific articulation agreements complement the statewide 2+2 articulation agreement, signifying a commitment between higher education institutions to enhance successful associate degree completion and seamless transfer to a university. As part of the MOU, FAMU and Broward College will work to align instructional programs at the undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate level to create a highly-skilled workforce in response to, and in anticipation of, economic growth opportunities.

"The economic and business landscape is constantly changing and evolving, and we need to be positioned to provide the best workforce," said Broward College President J. David Armstrong, Jr. "This new articulation agreement is a commitment by both FAMU and Broward College to work together to train and educate the scientists, health care professionals, teachers, and managers Florida will need to thrive in the future."

The new articulation agreement will promote expanded access for Florida students by:

• Providing guaranteed admission to the FAMU for Associate of Arts (AA) graduates and selected Associate of Science (AS) graduates consistent with university policy;
• Expanding access for AS graduates through articulated AS to BS degrees;
• Completion of prerequisite coursework for specified major consistent with university policy
• Exploring the expansion of financial aid resources to support two-plus-two articulation agreements.
• Centralized onboarding process to assist with the transition to the university

In addition, the College and the university will explore joint staffing opportunities, create a strategic rollout plan, and identify new initiatives to expand student success within the 2+2 transfer model. FAMU advisors will be present on Broward College campuses through the new FAMU Ignite Transfer program, a more rigorous 2+2 transfer program that provides greater clarity and streamlined access for transfer students regarding pathways to completing a bachelor's degree at the university. As part of the agreement, FAMU Ignite transfer advisors will meet with Broward College students once a semester and conduct educational planning by using curriculum maps to indicate the required courses for graduation or degree completion upon transfer.

The agreement is the latest development in an increase of articulation agreements recently forged by Broward College. The College has a long-standing articulation agreement and relationship with Florida Atlantic University (FAU) through the Link program. Earlier this year, the College refined its existing

Connect4Success articulation program with Florida International University (FIU) to include a direct transfer agreement for hospitality students. The board also approved a new programmatic agreement for the transfer of criminal justice graduates to the university. To qualify for the FAU Link program or the FIU Connect4Success program, students must earn their degree within three years.
