Bridging the Gap Between Generations and Musical Genres, Sweet Plantain Quartet Comes to Bailey Hall

Davie, Fla. (October 3, 2017) – Bailey Hall presents Sweet Plantain Quartet on Saturday, October 14 at 7:30 p.m. Bridging the gap between generations and musical genres, the ensemble artfully fuses the Western classical traditions in which they were trained with the hip hop, jazz improv and Latin rhythms on which they were raised.

The quartet is comprised of violinist/trombonist Eddie Venegas, cellist Leo Grinhauz, violist Orlando Wells and violinist/vocalist Joe Denninzon. Separately hailing from Venezuela, Argentina, New Jersey and the Bronx, Sweet Plantain gives voice to a sound that is contemporary, multicultural and very New York.

The ensemble has performed with classical orchestras and with jazz ensembles. Since 2007, Sweet Plantain's extensive touring has included performances throughout the United States, Europe, Russia, and the Caribbean, ranging from concerts in Russia's historic Tchaikovsky Concert Hall to Manhattan's Birdland jazz club.

"Sweet Plantain Quartet takes a classical art form in a completely new direction, combining it with urban and hip-hop influences in the same way that Turtle Island String Quartet infuses jazz." said Dr. Dan Barnard, Broward College associate dean of cultural affairs and director of Bailey Hall.  "This concert offers the thrill of discovering this amazing group in an intimate setting."

Hugh Adams Central Campus at 3501 Davie Rd. in Davie and offers free parking.
