The Rosemary Duffy Larson Gallery to Host International Artists for Globalocation II

Davie, Fla. (October 18, 2017) – Beginning on Thursday, November 16 the Broward College Rosemary Duffy Larson Galley will launch Globalocation II with an opening reception and from 6 to 9 p.m. The exhibition will be on view from November 16, 2017 to January 17, 2018.

The exhibition will feature work by the Artnauts, an international collective of artists who use art as a medium to express global issues and connect people across the world. Globalocation II is a compilation of the finest works from previous shows which share a common theme: each piece addresses some of the biggest political, social, and personal issues affecting our current existence.

Founded in 1996 by Dr. George Rivera, Professor of Art in the University of Colorado-Boulder Department of Art and Art History, he chose the name Artnauts to reflect that the group's work "was not (naut) art as usual." Together with professional artists Garrison Roots, Dennis Dalton, Beth Krensky, and Luis Valdovino set out to change the artist narrative by removing it from the high society of the gallery and into the sociopolitical issues of remote or marginalized communities.

In the group's 15th Anniversary Exhibition Catalog, internationally renowned art critic, writer, activist and curator remarked of the Artnauts, "[They] are well named. They take off for outer spaces (a.k.a. the margins) where angels are in short supply, filling gaps that shouldn't be there, speaking out where few can or will."

Member artists were the first to exhibit in Russia, Palestinian territories, and remote locations along the Amazon River in Columbia. In each location, the works used art to bring attention to important issues in the region. Nearly 300 artists have participated in the collective and originate from 13 American states and 9 countries. Currently, there are 50 active artists participating in Artnaut exhibits.

The Broward College Rosemary Duffy Larson Gallery is located in Building 6 on the A. Hugh Adams Central Campus at 3501 SW Davie Rd., Davie, FL. Entrance to the gallery is free and open to public. Hours are Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with extended hours on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m, or by appointment.
