Broward College Village Square Hosts First 2017 Dinner at the Square

"Affordable to Whom? The Affordable Housing Crisis in South Florida," began the series of non-partisan events with a spirited discussion on the wage-to-housing discrepancy.
Oakland Park, FL (October 23, 2017) - Broward College hosted the first Dinner at the Square for the 2017-2018 Village Square series at Funky Buddha Brewery in Oakland Park on Wednesday, October 18. The evening boasted over 95 local notables, students, and city officials in attendance for dinner and lively discussion.
Titled, "Affordable to Whom? The Affordable Housing Crisis in South Florida," the debate tackled the wage-to-housing discrepancy, the Sadowski Act of 1991, and the lack of local resources to meet the demands in Broward County. William O. Russell III, President and CEO of the Sarasota Housing Authority served as the moderator for panelists, Broward County Commissioner Nan H. Rich, District 1; and Jim Ellis, Founder of Ellis Diversified, Inc.
The Village Square Dinner at the Square events are public forums meant to better educate the public on important, and sometimes controversial, issues. Official partners of the Village Square are the Broward League of Cities and the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance. The evening's sponsor was Affiliated Companies.
The next Broward College Village Square event will be a Take Out Tuesday event on November 8 at the Broward College Downtown Campus (111 E. Las Olas Blvd, 12th floor, Ft. Lauderdale). Guests are encouraged to bring their own bagged dinner and participate in a discussion on "Homelessness in Broward County." Take Out Tuesday is free and open to the public.
