South Florida JAZZ at Bailey Hall Presents Grammy Nominee Trio da Paz

Davie, Fla. (February 6, 2018) –South Florida JAZZ at Bailey Hall continues with Trio da Paz on Saturday, February 17, at 7:45 p.m.

Featuring three of Brazil's most in-demand musicians, Trio da Paz updated the infectious spirit of jazz-oriented Brazilian music by the fusion with North American jazz sensibilities and vocabulary. Formed in 1990 by guitarist Romero Lubambo, acoustic bass virtuoso Nilson Matta and Brazil's swingingest drummer, Duduka da Fonseca, the trio has redefined Brazilian jazz with their harmonically adventurous interactions, daring improvisations and fluid rhythmic undertow. 

"Jazz is such a diverse genre of music and I truly enjoy the sounds of different cultures in this series." said Dr. Dan Barnard, associate dean of cultural affairs and director of Bailey Hall.

The band' release Partido Out won the Jazz Journalists Association award for "The Best Brazilian Jazz Album of the Year" in 2002 and, in 2016, the trio was nominated for a Grammy in the Best Latin Jazz Album category for its release 30.

Trio da Paz as a group has recorded and performed with Charlie Byrd, Herbie Mann, Lee Konitz, Kenny Barron and Nana Vasconcelos, among others. 

Note jazz critic Howard Mandel stated, "If North Americans hadn't invented jazz, then surely Brazilians such as the three talented young men (in Trio da Paz) would have invented something like it."
