Rev. Sharon Washington Risher was thrust into the limelight after the Charleston shooting at the Mother Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in June 2015. Since losing her mother and eight others in the tragedy, Risher has been outspoken about gun laws and a national spokespersons for advocacy groups such as Everytown and Moms Demand Gun Sense. Rastafarians refer to themselves as "I and I", which speaks to their connection with God and the "other". Inspired by the song i, by Kendrick Lamar, the core of "I and I: The Politics of Self-Love" focuses on self-acceptance and love of self as a revolutionary act through portraits of influential figures. "Space Apes" is a one-man show about an inmate re-entry program counselor speaking his mind on topics such as massive incarceration and the prison industrial complex, while exposing his relationship with bedeviled executives. He has performed locally and was the subject of a short documentary produced by WLRN for the Miami International Film Festival. Tickets are $10 for the general public. In 2007, a 23-year-old Captain Barrington Irving was recognized by the Guinness World Records as the youngest person and first black pilot to fly solo around the world. Barrington developed a "Flying Classroom" curriculum, which transforms the way students learn STEM. He created the nonprofit Experience Aviation, offering hands-on STEM-based programs and career guidance to middle and high school students in Florida, Georgia and Texas. The film will be accompanied live by the Broward Symphony Orchestra performing the brilliantly evocative score under the baton of Jeffrey Schindler, conductor of the original movie soundtrack and one of the most prolific music directors in Hollywood. "Common Humanity…The Colors of History"

"Common Humanity…The Colors of History" is the 13th annual Black History Month art exhibit hosted by Broward College. The collection of more than 70 pieces was curated by Jean-Jacques Stephen Alexis and features local African American artists. Paintings, sculptures and ceramics are among the media on display.
