Troy M. Bankert, Ph.D., a distinguished professor of criminal justice who brings an extensive and multifaceted background to his academic and professional endeavors. His teaching portfolio spans several prestigious institutions, including Broward College, Miami-Dade College, Rabdan Academy in the United Arab Emirates, and various online platforms. Bankert's comprehensive course offerings encompass Introduction to Criminal Justice, Ethics and Diverse Cultures, Juvenile Justice, Criminal Law and Procedure, Criminology, Constitutional Law, Homeland Security, Police-Middle Management, and Crime Scene Investigations.
Dr. Bankert's career in law enforcement complements his academic achievements. With a commendable tenure as Chief of Police for the New York City Police Department, he dedicated 21 years to public service. His leadership was marked by the successful implementation of the Group Violence Initiative (GVI), resulting in a 20% reduction in Part I crimes and a 70% reduction in non-fatal shootings over three years. Bankert's strategic vision fostered robust collaborations with federal agencies, including the ATF, FBI, DEA, U.S. Marshals, and U.S. Attorney's Office, enhancing the department's operational efficacy. Additionally, his role as an assessor for accreditation with the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association underscores his commitment to excellence in law enforcement standards. He continues his service as an auxiliary Florida Highway Patrol with full law enforcement credentials.
Academically, Bankert holds advanced degrees from Boston University and a Ph.D. from Liberty University.
