Broward College has Been a Leader in CTE Offerings for Many Years

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – One could say that Career and Technical Education is something that is part of the DNA of Broward College. Whether it be professional advancement, learning new skills to stay on top of the latest workplace trends or changing careers, students and employers have counted on Broward College to provide career and technical educational opportunities.

“At Broward College, we’re in a unique position in that we provide both traditional academic as well as workforce development and career and technical education options for students,” said Steven Tinsley, Ph.D., vice president of workforce education and strategic partnerships at Broward College.

Because of the important role career and technical education plays, Florida has designated February as Career and Technical Education Month. Broward College is proud to be a leader in CTE programs for many years, helping individuals improve their lives and the lives of their families.

“Not every job requires a four-year degree,” said Tinsley. “The workplace landscape is ever-changing, with so many in-demand, high-paying jobs that need to be filled. That’s where Broward College comes in – working with the business community, we ensure we are providing the latest education and training to prepare future employees to be successful.”

The College has a myriad of program and certification offerings – from FAA Remote Drone Pilot to Web Design to Insurance to Real Estate – as well as provides training solutions that meet identified business needs in today’s workplace.

Tinsley said this is truly a “win-win-win” situation: Broward College wins by ensuring steady enrollment via relevant education and workforce development programs; businesses win as their future employees are receiving the training and hands-on experiences that ensure their success in the workplace; and the community wins because having a highly-educated and skilled workforce helps attract new businesses and companies to the state, ensuring economic stability. A lesser-known fact: Florida is the 14th largest economy in the world. To continue economic growth, a highly skilled and trained workforce is a must, and CTE programs like those at Broward College help ensure that need is met.

“Our CTE offerings allows students the opportunity to acquire skills and earn certifications in some of the most vital and sought-after industries,” said Tinsley. “Our programs are designed to get students on the right track for them in a quicker, more affordable way. When they leave Broward College, they are career ready with little to no debt, and that’s a win for everyone.”
