FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Broward College will mark the start of a new era on Sept. 5 with the investiture of Torey Alston as its eighth President and CEO.

President Alston has deep connections to South Florida. Born and raised in Broward County, Alston attended Walker Elementary, Parkway Middle and Blanche Ely High School. His parents are both community college graduates, and his father graduated from what was then known as the Broward Community College Criminal Justice Institute, before a successful nearly 25-year career at the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

He worked as Chief of Staff for the Florida Department of Transportation and served as a Board of Trustees member for his alma mater, Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. He also worked as the inaugural Economic Compliance Officer and Executive Director for Miami-Dade County Public Schools, a position that included focusing on ADA compliance and small/veteran business contracting efforts. He also led the implementation of a $1.2 billion General Obligation Bond Program for new construction and renovation.

Alston also served on the Broward County Commission and as Chair of the School Board of Broward County. In the latter role, he focused on helping the school district achieve an “A” rating. Prior to joining Broward College, he worked as executive director and CEO of the Greater Miami Expressway Agency, an independent state agency.

Alston is married and has two children.

Investiture is both an opportunity for President Alston to lay out his vision of Broward College as the #1 destination for academic excellence, as well as a celebration of the College's 66th anniversary. To learn more about the investiture ceremony and related events, go here.
